Technology in the classroom
Watch the Technology youtubes on the right. Reflect upon what you saw. What are your thoughts about technology in the classroom? How could the Amazon Kindle change typical textbooks in the future? Please share an example of how a teacher effectively or ineffectively utilized technology in the classroom.

I really loved the Smartboard. I think it will be sooo useful in the class. It will not only allow the teacher to "write on the board", but to save documents and search the web. I think it is a good idea also since it can be interactive. Students may like going up and "touching" the screen. The Smartboard seems like a more advanced and fun way to learn. I would really like to have one in my class. I think students would find it helpful if they could read textbooks using the amazon kindle. This way students can read the assigned text anywhere. They don't have to be in their home sitting down with the book. It allows them to have more freedom reading and it doesn't necessarily have to be at home. Many of my past teachers used technology ineffectively. These teacher would try and incorporate technology into their classroom and all they did was read their notes from powerpoint slides. Not very effective in my opinion, especially since it is sooo boring.
Wow! Technology is amazing! I really enjoyed watching the videos on the Smartboard. I think that this is such an effective tool. In one of the videos, the teacher was explaining that she was creating her lesson plans around the smartboard because there are such a variety of ways to use it. Her students can benefit from the great amount of interaction that they can have with this board. I think this new invention will be a great addition to classrooms, and it is vital that schools aim to purchase smartboards. The Amazon Kindle is pretty amazing, too. Not only will we be wasting less paper, but we will also be saving our backs from carrying an unthinkable amount of weight in books. Also, if the Amazon Kindle was put into use, it could eventually save schools and students money.
I took a computer course in high school where the teacher used our technology effectively. Since we were equipped with Smartboards, she was able to stand in front of the class and show us how to use our computers. Instead of sitting at a desk or trying to read us directions, she could use her hands to show us how to use our computers effectively. She also allowed us to use the Smartboard when we were doing presentations, had questions, or even if we wanted to play games during free time. I learned a great deal from this teacher and this class because the technology allowed us to be interactive.
While I did have a few teachers that used technology effectively, I (much like Rachel) had several teachers that used powerpoints to teach us. These classes did prove to be incredibly borng, and it was very frustrating to learn from these teachers.
I think that the smartboard is a great thing to use in classrooms. It allows the teacher to show things on the internet but at the same time write on the board too. The smartboard also allows students to be active by coming up and writing on it or touching the screen. I think that it would be easier and helpful for students to use amazon kindle. If everyone used one it would save parents money. I had many teachers that used powerpoints in the classroom and sometimes they were helpful but at the same time boring.
I did have one teacher that used the smartboard in class. I agree with maggie that it helped me learn alot in that class becasue we were able to be interactive.
i have classes in the past that have had smartboards. they are ver useful if the teacher knows how to use it, which in most cases they didnt. it is a efficient way to use materials for classroom however it doesnt allow the students to be interactive like a chalkboard--the smartboard is better for older grades. i think that technology should be used in classrooms often because that is what our society is turning to.
i agree with rachel ramski that teachers use technology ineffectively. many of them using boring power points for their lectures, and that is not a good method of teaching from my point of view.
I think it is great that everyone that has posted thus far agrees that smartboards are an awesome tool for the classroom. At least you know some future teachers will use technology and effectively.
i think that it is very important to incorporate technology in the classroom because today our whole world is based on technology. students can learn so much with a touch of the mouse. i really like the smartboard in the classrooms because it allows students and teachers to be interactive and to help explain things better.
The new technology in the classrooms is really helpfull with the students learning process and the teachers teaching ability. Advancement in technology in the classroom is going to allow lessons to be taught with more efficiency and it will also allow teachers to reach a wider range of students learning abilities. I believe the Amazon Kindle will be a very useful book when it becomes fully functional. This will save students from having to carry multiple books around and it will also save the school money in the long run. This new book will also cater to those students who have difficulty reading or are disabled. These students will be able to plug in headphones and listen to the book.
In my high school we had smartboards in almost all of the classrooms. I love what the smartboard can do. This technology for teachers is basically having their computer right up on the board for them. Allowing them to save notes, graphs, documents, examples, or anything else imaginable on the board. The teachers entire lesson is accesible with the touch of a finger. A smartboard also gets rid of the funny white hand prints smeared across teachers pants from writing with chalk on the blackboard.
I really enjoy the smartboard. In my high school, almost every classroom had one. The teachers loved it because it was attached to their computer, and they can actually write on the board. When I did my observation hours, the teacher I observed had a smart board,and she could write out how to do a problem, and then click on a link to bring up the TI calculator. She had homework assignments saved on her computer that she could pull up, and she also could show everyone their grades by student ID. I think that technology in the classroom is vital to teaching in the 21st century. This is how students are learning, so we as teachers need to understand that, and adapt to it.Plus technology is making the teachers job a little bit easier in the sense of paperwork. The amazon kindle I think is amazing! I like that you don't have to hall all of your books around wherever you go. However, I think reading from a book is easier than reading from a computer. I like to highlight things, and what if a student doesn't have a computer? I think that with the amazon kindle, it will mean that fewer text books will actually be produced. This is good because it's a way of cutting back on paper use;however, it might make it more difficult to get a printed book for students like myself that like to highlight and have a hard copy. I think in high school i had a lot of teachers that utilize the technology they had correctly. They all had smart boards, but just used them as a chalk board. They didn't use everything that the smart board had to offer. I think that many teachers could have gotten information to the students a lot more effectively if they used all of the different things the smart board offered.
I agree with almost everyone on here. The smartboard is a very effective way of getting information across to students in a fun way; however, if a teacher doesn't know how to use it, it's just a fancy chalk board.
I think the Amazon kindle is a great tool for kids. I think about how i am able to get my son to eat things that are good for him by telling him (he is 3) that I got it from McDonalds. He's getting wise to me now, but in the past it's worked. As I got him to associate carrots with McDonalds, he percived them to taste better, so could it be that reading with the Amazon kindle will get kids more interested because of the format in which it is delivered?? Just a thought. Also, the Smartboards are the coolest. Keeping the students engaged will be so much easier, it's such a great tool. I definately want to be able to use one in my lessons in the future. And to respond, it's funny to me that you guys see Powerpoints as old school. When I was in school, we were high tech if we had an overhead!! Eduacation has come a long way.
I think smartboards could be a very useful tool in the classroom. I have never had the experience of having one in any class that i was in, so i dont know first hand but it seems like it would be good for teaching kids technology, but it also would be very helpful as far as getting class note for kids who were absent.
I really think that the Amazon Kindle would change alot about classrooms. When you go to class you only have to carry one book snice all of your books are on the Amazon Kindle. It also has the internet and other things you would need for class.
I think that the smartboard can be a really effective tool for teachers but only if they know how to use tem. I have never really had a teacher who used the smartboard but I think it would be much more useful for the teacher and the students than just a regular chalkboard. The teachers must be equipped to use teh smartboard though or it will not be as effective.
I agree with alyssa that the smartboard is so effective because it allows the students to interact more which helps keep their attention which in turn helps them learn more.
i think that technology in the class room keeps kids more intersted in whats going on. My teachers in the past have not used technology effectively. The smartboard is something that i beleive can be utilized in every classroom.
