Your final blog post will be about parent involvement in schools. After our discussion in class and your reading of chapter 6 you should have a good understanding of how important this connection is for the success of a child.
Watch the youtube links and post a comment about parental involvement. What are your thoughts? Do you have an interesting story from your schooling about your parent or a classmate's parent being involved in school? How important do you think it is? What can you do as a first year teacher to help parents become more involved?
Pick one of the questions above as a springboard for your post.
I also posted the Homework youtube in case you wanted to view it again.
Don't forget that ALL assignments must be turned in the first class period in December. I will not take any papers after that date.

A parents involvement in their child's education is so extremely vital and important. My parents were always involved and tried to help me as much as they could. They never forced it but they did stress how important school success was. They were always there for me if I had a problem in a subject and would always offer to get me a tutor if I needed. My parents always attended teacher parents conferences and were up at school for the parental programs my school offered. I think that if my parents had stressed how important school was from the getgo then I don't think it would have been as important to me. Their backing and foundation helped lead to all my successess. I have a friend that is single mom and she has to work so much that it is hard for her to get involved in her childrens school and to always know what they are up to. She works in St. Louis until about 5 or 530 and doesn't get home until 7ish. The girls just fool around and take naps rather than doing their homework since she isn't there. Her daughters are by no means dumb, but they are not doing well in school because they have the chance to slip up since their mom isn't home until real late. She feels really bad about this, but it is so hard to be a single parent and find a good paying job that is close to home. She is going to see about going in to work earlier so she will get home earlier because she really wants to be involved and knows that she has to in order for them to succeed. I think it will have a positive impact on her kids if she is home!!
I think that it is important for parents to be involved in their child's education. My parents have always been there for me. They are always at school functions and conferences. That meant alot to me that they were always there for me and still are. I could always count on them. It is important for parents to be involved because it will have an impact on their childrens lives. They will succeed knowing their parents are there for them.
I am totally in agreement with what Alyssa said. She basically said the same things that I did in my first blog. I would have tried to respond to someone who had a different opinion, but she is the only one who has posted so far. Being part of your child's education is so important. It is unfortunate that there are so parents who just don't care. If people are going to have kids and then not care about their success these people should rethink having kids.
Every parent should be involved in their child's education because everyone wants their children to have a much better life than the one that they have. The only way to do that now days is to have a higher education and hope you get hired for the career you want to seek. Every parent should be there for their child because that is one of the best ways that children learn because I always looked up to my dad and I listened to him. Now im in college just like he always wanted me to. I can tell you if i wasent for my parents I would proubably not be here but somewhere I most certanily do not want to be.
I think that parental involvement is extremely important. In one of the youtube videos, a parent said that her daughter does her best in school because she knows that her teachers might mention something to her mom when she comes to school. Just by stepping in the school building, that mom is showing her daughter that she cares. It is vital that parents take an interest in their child's education. If the parents do not care, the child will not see the importance of a quality education either. Consequently, it is extremely important for parents to be actively involved in their child's education.
I also agree with Brett and did not necessarily think of that. Parents must realize that the quality of education their child receives will have long term affects. From where they attend college to what job they have, education plays a major role in everyone's lives!
parental involvement is very important for if the parents aren't involved, how in the world can a teacher hope to get the students involved. Unless the kid has been immancipated, we really have to worry about the parents because they are where children learn the most from. If a parent isn't involved, we must get them involved in their childrens education. I know that you can take a horse to water but you can't force it to drink. Even still we have a responsibility to our students or in our case our future students to get the parents active so that the students can get the most out of their edcation.
I agree with Bret as well. Everyone wants to see their children, their studends succeed in school and in life. If we can't get the parents involved, it will be that much more difficult for the children to succeed.
i beleve the parent involvement is very important is school. my parents would always be on my case when i made bad grades, which is good. if i wasn't for them i would have not cared and wouldn't have tried at all.
i think a good idea would to have any bad test grade signed by the parents just to let the parents know how the student is doing in the class and if need be to call the parent/parents and speak to them personally.
a paarents involvent is crucial in a child's development. I belive if children feel like their parents care and want them to suceed and do good then they will do good. Children like getting feedback from their parents about their report cards and grades. They want someone to care if their grades arent good. If their grades are extremely bad its normally a way of expressing themselves and sometimes bad grades are a result of a house in chaos. Parents dont have to be involved to the point of going on field trips and being at school on a weekly basis but it is important that they show they care.
